Objectives

Designed to update physicians and other health care professionals regarding the evidence supporting current clinical practices in pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Upon completion, the participant should be able to:

  • Discuss the current incidence of pulmonary embolism, recognize the “Post PE Syndrome” entity, learn to appreciate the different classification model and gain knowledge on when nonpharmacological therapies are indicated
  • Interpret the emerging modalities in the field of interventional pulmonology for the purpose of learning when patients should be referred to such interventions
  • Identify new therapies in the management of asthma, familiarize themselves with atypical asthma cases and understand the complexities in managing recalcitrant asthma cases
  • Review interstitial lung disease as an entity in the field of pulmonary medicine, recognize diagnostic criteria and associated radiographic findings as well as familiarize themselves with emerging therapies
  • Identify updates in transplant practices for both harvesting and organ transplantation
  • Execute mass casualty trauma plans to include triage and local protocols
  • Identify the new advanced medical and non-medical therapies for heart failure
  • Review treatment strategies with the identification of new screening methods for acute kidney injury in the ICU
